Solvents & Industrial Chemicals

Solvents and Thinners:

Acetone- Solvent for spraying gel kotes and other polyester resin. Do not use over 20% polyester resin weight as acetone can cause brittleness in the FRP. Other applications include: paint thinners, solvent in acetylene manufacture.

Lacquer Thinner- Economical cleaning solvent for FRP tools: rollers, brush, squeegee. Used also as diluent and/or solvent for paints and varnishes.

Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK)- Used as paint removers, products for metal cleaning, solvent for dyes, manufacture of nail polish and nail polish remover. The principal advantage of MEK as compared to other solvents with similar evaporation rate, is its unusual solvent power, permitting the formulation of lacquers with a high solid content

Xylol- Primarily a Polygloss thinner as well as rubber cement remover. Also used as solvent in marine paints, paper coatings, primers, silver screen coatings and roller coatings.

Industrial chemicals

Hydrogen Peroxide 50%- Softening agent for Capiz shells (after being toasted) prior to lamination or assembly. Bleaching agent for wood and wood veneer. For waste water treatment, certain odors and sludge settling characteristics are effectively improved with H2O2 treatment.

Muriatic Acid- Industrial-strength cleaning liquid for bathroom floors, factory walls, etc. Also used as a cleaning agent for capiz shells.

CAUTION: These chemicals are highly flammable. Keep away from open flames and sparks. Store in a cool, dry place, away from other chemicals.
